Museo Huacas de Moche Santiago Uceda Castillo
It is located few meters from Huaca de La Luna. It was inaugurated on June 2010. Its architectural design rescues the constructive tradition of the Moche culture. Its interior is organized in three thematic halls. Also, each one of the display cases has legends with explanation in Spanish and English.
It is dedicated to offer details of the mochica world. The ceramic pieces have been selected to show different aspects of the iconography and activities developed by the moches.
There are 20 ceramic pots with the design of the snake and the stepped symbol. Other ceramic pieces show the fauna of that time, the hunting of the deer and sea lions. With reference to religion, diverse elements are represented, such as the sacred mountain, the races and ritual combats, the human sacrifices and the sacrificed prisoners.
In almost twenty years of investigation in Huaca de La Luna, the archaeologists have discovered important tombs, which are described in this hall.
There are in exhibition the Tombs of the Priest - Warrior, the Shaman, the Lord of the Prisoners, the Blind Priest, the Woman Artisan Weaver and a reburial moche. The piece of ceramic symbol of Huaca de La Luna, well-known as “Warrior Duck ”, takes a special place in this hall. This piece shows a duck spoon beak, with the body in black color with inlays of mother-of-pearl shell, the beak is in cream color.
There are also ceramic pots that show the importance that had the coca leaf during the ceremonies, 5 ceramios have the representation of men that chew the coca leaf.
The goldsmithery shows some ornaments that were used in the ceremonial dresses, as well as the earings and an magnify ornament made in gilded copper that was used on the back.
After the abandonment of Huaca de La Luna, the Chimu used the Ceremonial Plaza with funeral purpose. Of this time the archaeologists discovered two tombs, inside which were found wooden scale models that represent Ceremonial Plazas in Chan Chan where is carried out the ritual to the a mummy of a king or ancestor. The mummy is made in shells of Spondylus.
It is dedicated to the discoveries made in the Moche city (urban area). The are in exhibition musical instruments in ceramic, little idols, molds and objects used for weaving.
